Note Taking Process

This probably matters to absolutely no one but…

The general process of these notes is:

  • Highlights happen while reading on my Kobo Sage. The Sage has a really shitty keyboard so comments are often so brief as to be cryptic or they're skipped entirely.
  • Highlights and comments are manually transferred to Calibre. Sometimes I'll have no memory of why I highlighted a word or a passage. It meant something to then-Dave that it doesn't mean to now-Dave. Sometimes now-Dave will guess and sometimes he'll put “H w/o C” (Highlighted without comment) which reminds me of a Liz Phair song. Sometimes the comment gets expanded at this point.
  • Comments are exported from Calibre and reformatted for DokuWiki. They're often greatly expanded during this process and sometimes I go grab more text so there's enough for you to have a clue what's being talked about.

Example:

Chapter or Section

Bonus text to give context to this important bit that I highlighted or commented on.

This is my comment. If there's no highlight in the above then the whole thing is the highlight but it looked weird if I highlighted it all here. If it says “highlighted without comment” or “H w/o C” that was done while I was reading on my Kobo Sage, the onscreen keyboard sucks so sometimes I don't comment and then I don't remember why I highlighted the line. 😕
